About the Head Babe

Hi there! I’m Naomi and the Owner of Bobcat Babes. As the daughter of a logger, I have always been around heavy duty machines. My dad owned a CAT and a Backhoe as far back as I can remember. When I was around 12 years old I went to logger sports with my family and I remember they had an excavator set up there that anyone could try out. I was so eager to give it a go… and I was good at it! This planted a seed.

You see, even though I grew up with a backhoe in my backyard, I wasn’t really allowed to run it. There were always reasons why… it was old, the brakes weren’t good, the controls were sloppy etc etc.

Fast forward to 2020 when my sweet Uncle Rudy passed away and willed his little house to ME. I decided to renovate and also thought it would be handy to have my own little machine to help since we had 2 acres to play with. Finally the day came and it was delivered. Of course my dad jumped in it right away and took it off the trailer as soon as it hit the yard… but hold on there pal, this is MY machine! I couldn’t wait to get into the seat and discover what all the levers did and start putting it to use.

My first objective (after learning the controls) was to pick up chunks of wire and put it into the large metal recycling bin. OMG that was SO fun! I felt incredibly empowered running this machine and I knew we were going to be the best of friends. It was a couple days later and we had the Bomb Squad come to the cottage to safely set off a bunch of blasting wire and things we had found in my Uncle’s shed. I told them if they needed a trench, I had a machine and would be happy to dig them one (even though I never dug a trench before!). After working with the wires for awhile they decided a trench was the way to go and I was up! I dug my very first trench, and it was AWESOME, and it was for the BOMB SQUAD!! This is why on the back of “Bobbi” (which I affectionately call her) you will see a cute decal that says “I dig trenches for the Bomb Squad”.

Over the past 3 years Bobbi and I have done a lot of work together. Moved a whole bunch of dirt, lifted logs, cleared roads, pushed trees over, dug trenches (some very close to the house), created parking areas, graded roads, snow plowed. All the things! One day I was curious if there were other women out there like me, that were intrigued by machinery but just never had the opportunity to sit and actually play on one. I was willing to share Bobbi for this because I know how much I love it and have felt hugely empowered by it. I put a post out on Facebook to a local women’s group and was OVERWHELMED (in a good way!) by all the women saying YES! Sign me up!!

And this…. is how Bobcat Babes came to be.
